International stratospheric ozone protection day
On September 16, the International Day on the protection of the stratospheric ozone layer is celebrated, and finally we see the first positive results.
The date was chosen in memory of the signing of the historic Montreal Protocol of September 16, 1987, a document requested by the General Assembly of the United Nations. Since 1995 this day has been dedicated to the debate and awareness on the delicate issue of ozone preservation.
Ozone is a thin and fragile layer that protects our planet from ultraviolet radiation from the sun, which can cause considerable damage to ecosystems. Since the 1930s it has been man who caused the progressive deterioration of this layer, above all through the use of highly destructive gases, the so-called chlorofluorocarbons (Cfc), synthetic substances used in the industrial sector.
