14 June
World Blood Donor Day

The World Blood Donor Day proclaimed by the World Health Organization is celebrated since 2004 on June 14th. On 14 June he was chosen as the birth day of the Austrian biologist Karl Landsteiner, discoverer of blood groups, in 1900, and co-investigator of the Rhesus factor.
Since then the day has become an occasion to underline the great social and human value of this gesture and to reaffirm the importance of guaranteeing everywhere the availability of free, periodic, anonymous and associated donations.
