World Emoji Day
World Emoji Day was invented by Jeremy Burge in 2014. The New York Times reported that Burge created it on July 17th based on how the emoji of the calendar is shown on iPhones. For the first World Emoji Day, Burge told The Independent "that there were no formal plans" other than choosing the date.
On the occasion of World Emoji Day 2015, Pepsi launched PepsiMoji which included an emoji keyboard and cans and bottles of custom Pepsi World Emoji Day.
In 2016, Sony Pictures Animation used World Emoji Day to announce TJ Miller as the first cast member of The Emoji Movie. In 2017, Apple used World Emoji Day to announce its new emoji on iOS.
