Secret bar Milan: the secret places of our city

Milan like America in the years of prohibition ... that's right, you got it right! In the Milanese city you can spend a different evening than usual by going to one of the secret bars in the area. But ... what exactly are these secret bars and where are they located?

On the one hand we find the speakeasies, which reproduce the atmosphere of those years, while on the other there are the membership clubs, exclusive places which, being a little more suited to modernity, in turn give a unique and particular experience. And now ... let's go to the discovery of these "clandestine" places in Milan!

A place with a typical décor from the times of prohibition, the 1930 is perhaps the most famous speakeasy of all in Milan. How is it accessed? The 1930 address is secret and can only be accessed thanks to the "intercession" of one of the managers of the MAG Café, a place in Ripa di Porta Ticinese 43. If the address continues to remain secret, the place is not at all.

In fact, it was recently voted among the 50 best cocktail bars in the world by "The World's 50 Best Bar" while Benjamin Cavagna, the bar manager of the club, won the "Bartender under 30" of the year award at the "Barawards 2019" . Those who have been there say that the cocktails of the 1930s are exceptional and extremely sought after, such as the Alaska Martini served directly in a large square of ice with perfect geometries, in which you can find the flavors of vermouth, lemongrass, green pine, kombucha, wood, lacto and juniper.

WHITE RABBIT SPEAKEASY

Unlike the 1930s, the coordinates of the White Rabbit are known but the retro atmosphere will transport you equally to an American speakesay of the 1920s. The restaurant is located in via Garigliano 4, Isola district, the waiters wear white rabbit masks and the drinks are extremely sought after.

APOPHIS CLUB

In the heart of the city, the Apophis Club was the first membership club to open in Milan. The venue is located in via Carlo Giuseppe Merlo 3 and to enter it you have to pay an annual fee. Once down the stairs, the bar counter appears in front of you, whose backlit bottle shop offers more than 500 Premium labels. Among the peculiarities, the place focuses heavily on a "tailor made mixology" service (cocktails made to measure for the customer) and the ice of the drinks is made with the machines of the Japanese company Hoshizaki, which guarantees greater resistance.

THE SPIRIT

Another membership club is The Spirit, whose headquarters are in via Piacenza 15, Porta Romana area. To become a member of the club you have to visit the club and ask the team for info or be introduced by someone who is already a member. By becoming a member you have access to dedicated events and other privileges.

PORTAL CLUB

Membership club born under the sign of Deus, the Portal Club is located in via Thaon di Revel 3. Here the invitation is manifested in the form of a key, with which you can open the door that will open the doors of the club. The capacity is 40 people, the cocktail list is signed by Fabio Spinelli and performed by Morris Mau and the classic aperitif has been replaced by the concept of food pairing.

WOOTSU SOCIETY

Wootsu Society is the Chinese-inspired secret bar located inside The Doping Club, the bar of The Yard hotel in Piazza XXIV Maggio. Here only five people are allowed at a time for a maximum of one hour and the invitation is made by registering on the site and then receiving a card that will allow them to enter the club.

MA' HIDDEN KITCHEN SUPPER CLUB

The Ma 'Hidden Kitchen Supper Club is something different than what we have described so far. Created by Lele and Melissa in 2012, it is a very successful social eating experiment, in which a maximum of eight people can reach their Milanese loft and enjoy a delicious dinner based on seasonal ingredients starting with the appetizer and ending with the coffee maker. Dinners at the Ma 'Hidden Club are usually one or two a week, almost always on weekends.

BACKDOOR 43

Backdoor 43 is perhaps the smallest cocktail bar in the world and is part of the same group as the 1930's MAG Café and Barba. Here the bartender serves you the drink through a flap and you will barely see his hands. It is located in Ripa di Porta Ticinese 43.
